I write things on Ao3. Major Works include:

The Hundred Year Playlist: An MCU Steve/Bucky slowburn series spanning (so far) 5 parts (plus bonus B-Sides) and over 200,000. words. WIP.
Ulysses: an 89k 00Q slowburn with gratuitous Tennyson references.

Mostly I'll be posting about my fic and other fandom things. The plan is to also bring over some of my research and meta posts so I don't lose 'em. I am currently trapped in an ongoing MCU firestorm, but expect regular blasts of Tolkien Content and the odd flurry of Sherlock and 00Q (and other fandoms as I slide further into madness)

The Mighty Endgame Rewatch: A Terrible But Also Enjoyable Film (aka Thor 2)

So okay technically Thor 2 should come before Cap 2 but I didn’t want to watch Thor 2 on my birthday, i wanted to watch Cap 2 on my birthday BECAUSE IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY. nobody wants Thor 2 for their birthday it’s a hot mess of a movie with an incredible cast just all tangled up in a really intensely bad script.

BUT DAMN THO If i could just watch a mastercut of the Thor and Loki scenes, with additional Darcy and Selveig for comic relief, I’d be ALL! OVER! THAT!

NEW CHAPTER: The B-Sides

Since this is my first fanfic-type post in this sphere, a brief intro: The B-Sides are a side fic to my larger Stucky fic series The Hundred Year Playlist, but if I've done my job right, it should stand alone just fine. It's a series of little ficlets that are more or less true to canon (since THYP so far fits more or less comfortably inside the MCU canon). AKA ok but why isn’t it called avengers assemble tho

Avengers is a movie that has not aged well for either me or The Roommate (aka @goteamwin) and we had a whole conversation about how at the time it came out we were excited about Avengers, even though neither of us were yet hip-deep in the Marvel fandom. But we were !excited! because !Joss Whedon! and now we are ?disappointed? because ?Joss Whedon?

This movie, in retrospect, might be The Tipping Point of Joss Whedon’s career? like? It contains everything that was Great about his movies but also contains the seeds of his ultimate self-destruction.

ANYWAY ON WITH THE REWATCH, AKA STEVE ROGERS AND THE CUBE THAT WOULDN’T FUCKING DIE

this opening scene is so expositiony and on the one hand at least it doesn’t contain a flashback but on the other hand? it’s bad?? It’s a bad start???
- sidenote by The Roommate: so i know that it was recently confirmed that Loki was being mind-controlled in Avengers but also. Was there ever any question about whether Loki was being mind controlled? or am I just That Fangirl
  - Sidenote to the sidenote, By Me: She is not That Fangirl, but i suspect that she was perilously close to becoming That Fangirl at some point in her past.

A New Year's Thor

How did I spend New Year’s? Continuing our mighty pre-endgame rewatch with The Roommate ( @goteamwin ) and The Gal Pal ( @pegasuschick ). We’re watching Thor, the Kenneth Branagh-i-est of the Marvel Movies.

right away I comment to The Roommate: What is up with all these angled shots?
- The Roommate, a video editor and producer: Actually that’s called a canted shot.
- Me, mere moments later: not a lot of shots in this that AREN’T canted, are there.
  - seriously, watch this movie. If I made note of every canted shot, these rewatch notes would be 90% CANT.

THE MIGHTY ENDGAME REWATCH: IM2

Typing this up the morning after The Roommate @goteamwin and I watched Iron Man Two and upon reflection, the movie is about 800x better if you think of Rhodes or Nat as the POV character, with Tony as the main villain – because let’s face it, Tony is always the main villain of the Iron Man franchise (and other franchises too, sometimes)

noodle at the Steve VS the Guggenheim idea (boogiewoogiebuglegal yoU AND ICEWHISPER ARE REAL BASTARDS YOU KNOW THAT??)

so I think I maybe actually like being free of the blue purgatory? I want to try and spend less time on Tumblr, going forward. I don't think there's any website that quite matches it for social media experience -- it suited me really well, I adapted to it very quickly and I've gotten endless hours of amusement from it, BUT.

it was the vibrancy of the community I found there that worked for me. That community can be built -- or rebuilt -- anywhere.

Ye Mighty Endgame Rewatch Part Two: The Incorrect Hulk

Part One, CATFA, is HERE

Part Two in our personal In-Universe Chronology is The Incorrect Hulk. Which I think really should come before Iron Man beacuse A: it’s a natural follow up from Superserum Steve to show Superserum Oh We Fucked Up, but B: the Tony who comes to Ross at the end of the movie really feels more like a pre-Afghanistan tony. I know he’s heavily hinting at the Avengers yadda yadda yadda, but I’m sorry the movie is wrong it should be pre iron man, EMBRACE THE TRUTH Y’ALL.

ON WITH THE MOVIE

this movie has a surprisingly strong opening? like, despite the overall comic-book-ness of it i am On Board, and it gets the audience a good grasp of where the Hulk comes from without getting bogged down and I actually? like? that?
*clicks scientist pen* let’s see if we can pinpoint the exact moment it goes Awry.

Mighty Endgame Rewatch, Part One: CATFA

Did anyone else do the big "Watch One Movie A Week Starting Jan 1 and You'll Have Seen Them All Before IW" thing? I did, and it was HILARIOUS and also SUPER FUN and The Roommate and I will be doing it again this year and I though HEY LET ME LIVEBLOG THIS EXPERIENCE. You know. For Posterity.

I convinced her to do it in-universe chronological order this time, so we started with CATFA.

Roommate pregamed with booze and cookies, so she’ll be appropriately numbed to Steve’s Suffering, Part One. “Here it comes” she says, in the softest saddest voice.

The Hundred Year Playlist, a Ficliography

I do recommend these fics, but this isn't a rec list.

This started when I mentioned that I wanted to compile a long-ass list of fics that inspired The Hundred Year Playlist and it turned out that people were actually interested in that. FYI: I intend to do more detailed/better organized ficliographies later, but I thought I'd start by roughly importing the original Tumblr post, so I can get a hang of how DW works. HOW DO CUT? an autobiography.

Fanfiction, like every other art form that has ever existed in the history of ever, is all about synthesis: combining pre-existing elements to make something new. It’s the making something new thing that’s exciting. (If you’re not making something new with your found material, that’s called plaigiarism and it’s distinctly uncool.)

When I was in college and grad school, if we used material from other scholars to make a new idea, we made sure to include a bibliography.

Now this is fic, so like. Everyone knows that we’re using found material. We put the fandom in the tags and everything. But there’s a lot of unseen inspiration, because it’s harder to tag all the fics and metas you read that gave you ideas and inspiration along the way.

I’m… making an attempt.

These are some, SOME of the fics that inspired the headcanons and characterizations and whatnot that then got incorporated into THYP. I’ve been reading MCU fic since 2014 (possibly earlier) and I didn’t even start thinking about THYP until 2017, so there’s probably a lot of stuff that went into my subconscious that I’ve forgotten about. (I'm gonna try to link the authors's blogs where I know them? is that correct etiquette?? what is dreamwidth???)

Fandom Exodus To Do List:

When the Titty Prohibition was announced (aka Nipoclypse, aka the Fuckening, aka whatever we end up calling it) I came to the sudden realization that all my most precious fandom metas and resources were stored on a platform that I liked, but didn't trust. Tumblr is like that one friend who's a total blast until they get wasted and puke on your shoes. Maybe it's not a party without them, but you wouldn't ask them to babysit. Dreamwidth feels like that dependable mom friend. The one with a safe and a babyproofed apartment.

Anyway, here's my

To Do List for Organizing my Fandom Shit on this New (Old) Platform

Ficliographies: the first thing I want to do is post ficliographies for my fics -- that is, new versions of the not-a-rec-list I did over on The Blue Hellsite, but more complete and better organized. For readers, these act like "If You Liked My Fics, You Might Like..." posts, but for me they just help remind me who's shoulders I'm standing on... I wanna start doing these for ALL my big fics: Ulysses (00Q, 89K), The Hundred Year Playlist (Steve/Bucky, 200k+ series) which includes: Dreamers with Empty Hands, Good Morning Heartache, What's New, The Terror of Knowing, Fool For Sacrifice, and No Hope for the Weary (and will eventually include more!)

The Fics Themselves: Trust No Bitch But Ao3, but I think I want to create masterposts for my fics here, where I think I'll have better control over editing and updating them. At the very least, I expect to do this for THYP as I reread it in preparation for posting the next part in the series...

Metas: My fandom tumblr started out as a repository for metas and research for my fic, but it seems like maybe this could be a better platform for that. So I'm gonna start seeing if I can bring some of my Fandom Meta Posts over from Tumblr -- a lot of them were posted as replies/reblogs so it'll be...uhhhhhhh a challenge? I'M SURE I CAN FIGURE IT OUT.

Anybody else got plans for what they're going to try out on this New Old Space?

In light of the ongoing tumblr nonsense, I'm looking into this as an option -- seems like a good place to stash my fan fiction and metas? I trust no bitch but Ao3 these days, and I'm exporting my fannish blog -- you know, where I keep my favorite nonsense. So I guess expect to see me posting about fic, fic writing, and general fandom metas. I have zero familiarity with livejournal style blogging, but until a truly viable tumblr alternative comes up (NOT YOU, TWITTER) then this is going to be my fallback.

Maybe I'll like it?

But also, like? What is dreamwidth etiquette?? How does one dreamwidth??? Stay tuned for more awkward fumblings into the depths of the internet.
