Fandom Exodus To Do List:
When the Titty Prohibition was announced (aka Nipoclypse, aka the Fuckening, aka whatever we end up calling it) I came to the sudden realization that all my most precious fandom metas and resources were stored on a platform that I liked, but didn't trust. Tumblr is like that one friend who's a total blast until they get wasted and puke on your shoes. Maybe it's not a party without them, but you wouldn't ask them to babysit. Dreamwidth feels like that dependable mom friend. The one with a safe and a babyproofed apartment.
Anyway, here's my
To Do List for Organizing my Fandom Shit on this New (Old) Platform
Anybody else got plans for what they're going to try out on this New Old Space?
Anyway, here's my
To Do List for Organizing my Fandom Shit on this New (Old) Platform
- Ficliographies: the first thing I want to do is post ficliographies for my fics -- that is, new versions of the not-a-rec-list I did over on The Blue Hellsite, but more complete and better organized. For readers, these act like "If You Liked My Fics, You Might Like..." posts, but for me they just help remind me who's shoulders I'm standing on... I wanna start doing these for ALL my big fics: Ulysses (00Q, 89K), The Hundred Year Playlist (Steve/Bucky, 200k+ series) which includes: Dreamers with Empty Hands, Good Morning Heartache, What's New, The Terror of Knowing, Fool For Sacrifice, and No Hope for the Weary (and will eventually include more!)
- The Fics Themselves: Trust No Bitch But Ao3, but I think I want to create masterposts for my fics here, where I think I'll have better control over editing and updating them. At the very least, I expect to do this for THYP as I reread it in preparation for posting the next part in the series...
- Metas: My fandom tumblr started out as a repository for metas and research for my fic, but it seems like maybe this could be a better platform for that. So I'm gonna start seeing if I can bring some of my Fandom Meta Posts over from Tumblr -- a lot of them were posted as replies/reblogs so it'll be...uhhhhhhh a challenge? I'M SURE I CAN FIGURE IT OUT.
Anybody else got plans for what they're going to try out on this New Old Space?

I never used my tumblr for creating much so I brought the only things I cared about (three not!fics I wrote two years ago) over to my ao3 already.
I felt very ugh about finding the time to do it, but after the fact it was so satisfying! I got a bunch of kudos and some nice comments. They didn't get the volume of response as they had on tumblr of course, but the response felt much more personal. Tbh I think I appreciate a kudos on ao3 even more than a reblog on tumblr sometimes.
The biggest thing I want to make sure to do here is actually create things. It's a bit sad that it took me an hour to get everything I wanted off of a platform I've been using for at least 7 years. I want to use dreamwidth enough that I would be devastated if it went away suddenly.

I feel like Tumblr was great for really vibrant creativity, but shit for building relationships and interactions. I’m hoping DW can be a better space for that.

I never posted anything on Tumblr -- when I transitioned there from LJ I was not thrilled with the user interface. I didn't like the way you couldn't really have a conversation, so I never put in the effort to say anything. Whether DW winds up as the main home of fandom, or Pillowfort, either one of those seems better designed for communicating back and forth, so I'll probably start posting again.

I had exactly 10 posts of mine that I wanted to save from tumblr, so I did that this morning. No idea if they're gonna go anywhere, but I have them now, so that's cool.
Also have no idea what I'm gonna do with DW. I like the format, and it feels more like having a bunch of conversations then shouting into the void and having it either scream back or completely ignore you.

And yeah, AO3 comments seem to only be for 'this fic is great!' type of thing and not really for community building/interactions. DW seems to be a platform whose format is more geared towards conversations.

I am so happy that folks are back over on DW (at least for a while, but I hope for good).
My fic lives on AO3 and on my Google Drive, but I used to love the fic rec lists on LJ when that was the online home of most fandoms.
DW is a great place for meta IMO, because of the threaded comments, which means we can have actual *gasp* conversations!
